Deep End 2011 Gap Program (Feb-Oct)

Time out to dive in!

This isn’t just another airy fairy, time filler gap year - it’s sink or swim.  The DeepEnd program is a life skills and Christian ministry course that will stretch your mind and flex your spiritual muscles.  DeepEnd has been designed specifically for school leavers up to the age of 20, who are looking to gain real skills through real, practical experiences before taking their next step in life – whether that be into the workforce, further study, ministry, travel, or something else completely out of the box.

The program is loaded with challenging, hands-on activities that will stretch you, take you outside your comfort zone and give you exposure to a diverse range of people and real-life situations.

DeepEnd kicks off with a 3-day Orientation Camp, where you'll be thrown into high voltage experiences with adventure-based learning guru Russell Wright. This is a time to connect with your peers and trainers and explore what God has in store for you over the next half-year. Then it's into the program!  Interested? Make an Enquiry Now!

Trainers and guest lecturers will equip you with the information, knowledge and strategies you need to build your awareness and confidence in handling many of the situations life may throw at you. The field trips and practical experiences will throw you in the DeepEnd and challenge you to apply what you’ve learned.  All the while you’ll be completing your Certificate III in Ministry and will be encouraged to delve into your faith, question your own ideas, perceptions and prejudices.  You can expect to grow in your relationship with God and develop your understanding of what it means to live your faith.

Warning: This is not your typical gap program!  Be prepared to be transformed through real-life experiences.

With DeepEnd you may find yourself exploring topics and issues such as:

•    Community Development
•    Poverty + Social Justice
•    Gender roles + stereotypes
•    Theology + Ministry in your life + your community
•    Aboriginal Australia
•    Conflict Resolution + Group Dynamics
•    Singleness, Dating + Sexuality
•    Healthy Relationships + Marriage
•    Addiction - Drugs + Alcohol
•    Mental Health
•    Making good decisions and living with purpose

You might be thrown into DeepEnd situations such as:

•    Working with Community Development projects
•    A cross-cultural experience with an indigenous community
•    Event Management - organisation, planning + program delivery
•    Survival courses
•    Working with people with disabilities
•    Work experience - volunteering with organisations
•    Camping + other beach or bush activities
•    Ministry events

And you'll most certainly be guided in developing your practical skills and experience in:

•    Communication - Listening, behaviour + conflict management, public speaking, phone skills
•    Organisational Skills - Letter writing, professional communication + email etiquette
•    Career preparation - resume writing, interview skills
•    Time Management + Goal Setting
•    Managing finances and budgets
•    Career planning for your next step in life

We'll even teach you how to change your oil and tyres when you get a flat!
